SCULPTURES
MIXED MEDIA
Untitled, 2017
PLA, Resin
The beauty of a tree is admired from above land, with 'the mess' of roots hidden underneath. The choice of materials exposes what is usually unseen, comparable to the way modern society chooses to be represented externally - composed but struggling on the inside. A theme of Zoe's work is the use of conceptual representations the human condition.

Healing Series, 2011 - 2012

Mixed fabrics, clear synthetic thread, wood, 2011
This mixed media piece is a conceptual work exploring illness and healing, the textiles represents the human condition; being taken apart and, in the material form, hand-sewn back together.
The wooden frame is disjointed, broken, leaning, but still standing. There is strength and vulnerability in the choice of materials. The work also explores reparation and 'the object as a surrogate'.

Cotton, wood, 2011
In creating absurd upscaled garments it emphasises the task of getting dressed, such a seemingly small task for most people. The act of dressing can be an incredibly difficult feat for people with mental health issues; the choice, the deliberation, the concentration required, and the physical act itself. The work highlights the aspects of life many take for granted. The bare bones of a canvas is dressed, sleeves hang heavy, pulling the material down, which exaggerates the feeling of being burdened.

Fabric, dye, stiffener, 2012

Fabric, cotton thread, metal boning, 2012
This work is an further exploration of sickness and healing. The process looks at the destruction of a surrogate object, taking apart to the skeleton structure. The first in the series is mess of seams, draped on the plinth, the object at it's most vulnerable state, the further two sculptures explore the healing of someone after illness. The second piece starts to rebuild but falls in on itself and the final is rigid, standing tall and strong. They become stronger but ultimately are not the same as before.
